Ondontophobia

What is ondontophobia?

Ondontophobia is an abnormal fear of being dental treatment.

What are the symptoms of ondontophobia ?

The sufferer can feel their facial skin becoming physically warm as the skin reddens. This is often described as a "hot flush" and can be very distressing for the sufferer who has no control over its onset. Indeed the more the sufferer worries about the possibility of ondontophobia, the more likely they are to blush, therefore making the condition self-perpetuating.

How can hypnotherapy help with ondontophobia?

Most anxiety-related problems, including ondontophobia, can be helped using hypnotherapy. often these problems are caused by some deep-rooted and unresolved emotion that has been bottled-up at some point in the sufferers past, usually during childhood. A symptom, such as ondontophobia, can then be triggered by some other traumatic event or stressful situation during the suffers lifetime.

Hypnosis is used to induce a person into a deeply relaxed and comfortable state where their mind becomes highly responsive to positive suggestions whilst also being very focused and able to retrieve both long-forgotton and hidden recollections from the past. In doing this, bottled up emotions from these past experiences can be released and once these emotional issues have been recognised and resolved the symptom, in this case blushing, invariably disappears.

Describe the treatment for ondontophobia

The treatment for ondontophobia would usually be a course of analytical therapy. On average this takes between 6 and 8 sessions (maximum 12) during which the sufferer is encouraged to recall experiences and events from their past and to release any emotions connected with these recollections.

However, no assumptions as to treatment will be made prior to a initial consultation, for which there is no charge. Only after this meeting has taken place can the needs of the individual, and their circumstances, be evaluated and discussed, at which point an appropriate course of treatment can be agreed upon.
